The Battle of Britain Class 34067 Tangmere will head to Carlisle later this year.
Following the sell-out success of The West Yorkshireman steam charter in May, the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company has released tickets for a second celebration train from Bradford to Carlisle on October 4.
Passengers will have time in Carlisle to explore the Historic Quarter, including Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle and Tullie House Museum. On this date, visitors can also enjoy the Carlisle Cathedral Farmers’ Market, which supports local artisan producers, crafters, and artists.
John Moorhouse, deputy chairman, Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company, said: “Our May charter was so successful we sold out, leaving many people disappointed.
“We’re delighted to run a second train in Bradford’s City of Culture year to mark three milestones: Railway 200, celebrating 200 years of passenger rail. Settle–Carlisle ‘s150 years of freight transport, and Bradford’s year as City of Culture.
“We have booked the Battle of Britain Class 34067 Tangmere to head the train, which will be made up of heritage carriages.
“The Tangmere is cleared to pull the train all the way from Bradford. However, these are heritage vehicles, and last-minute substitutions may have to be made. That’s part of the nature and the charm of travelling with such classic steam trains.
“The Border City Express will arrive in Carlisle in time for the city’s vibrant monthly farmers’ market in the cathedral grounds, perfect for sampling the best of Cumbria’s local produce and crafts.”
