A seven-year-old boy has raised over £2,200 for a Cumbrian charity after completing a sponsored walk.
Albie completed the route of around five-and-a-half miles from his home in Thornhill, near Egremont, to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven in aid of Blood Bikes Cumbria.
The challenge, on Saturday July 4, was inspired after volunteers from Blood Bikes Cumbria visited Albie’s school to deliver a talk about their work and brought a motorbike for pupils to sit on.
Before setting out, Albie said: “I am autistic and I also have hypermobility syndrome which causes me pain when I exert myself.
“So it won’t be an easy challenge for me to walk this distance, but I really want to help an amazing local charity, who I have been lucky enough to meet at my school, as this is our class charity.”
Albie was accompanied on the walk by his father Darren and family friend Elliott.
Volunteers from Blood Bikes Cumbria met him at the finish line with a motorbike to present him with a goodie bag.
The challenge raised £2,206.25, including Gift Aid, through an online fundraising page.
Albie met volunteers at the charity’s west unit to receive a certificate of thanks.
