Former Carlisle United fullback Ben Williams has signed for Morecambe after the club was taken over by Punjab Warriors.
A Welsh Under-16s international, Preston-born Williams had a spell with Morecambe as a youngster.
He also spent time in the youth set-up at Blackburn before he was signed in 2017 by Barnsley after a successful trial.
Williams went on to make 36 senior starts for the Oakwell side before joining Cheltenham Town in 1922.
He was pretty much a regular for two seasons with Cheltenham, making 68 appearances before being one of nine players released by Cheltenham, following their relegation to League Two.
A year ago he agreed a short term deal with Carlisle United but left in January after it was up and had only appeared eight times for the Blues.
Morecambe’s new manager Ashvir Singh Johal has been adding to his depleted squad ahead of this afternoon’s first game in the National League.
They face Altrincham in their season opener (12.30pm kick off at home).
The club had been unable to start the season as scheduled on August 9, due to suspension from the National League until the takeover had been completed and clearance to sign players and resume playing had been given the green light.
Morecambe have also appointed Lee Complin as head coach to assist the new manager.
He takes the place of former Carlisle United skipper and Workington Reds manager Danny Grainger.
