A Carlisle man has been jailed after he breached a court order for the eighth time.
Elijah Ali, 35, of Baird Road, was first made subject to a restraining order in 2022 in respective of an ex-partner.
The order was then amended the following year and, city magistrates heard today remains in force until July 28 2027.
Ali is banned from having any contact with his former girlfriend, and is barred from entering Atkinson Crescent in the Harraby area of Carlisle.
But on Saturday, August 23, an off-duty detective constable saw Ali on Atkinson Crescent and was conscious a court order was in place.
When Ali then presented himself at a police station counter for another matter, he was arrested.
Appearing in court remotely, over a video link from custody, Ali pleaded guilty to what was the eighth breach of his order.
The prosecution said the victim was not aware Ali had been present on Atkinson Crescent.
At the time, Ali was also subject to two conditional discharges — each imposed by a court on the understanding he would stay out of trouble.
One was imposed for four offences of shoplifting; and a second for drug possession and a public order matter.
Ali had since been recalled to prison having also been handed a 16-week jail term, in May, for a previous restraining order breach.
The defence said that Ali was only on Atkinson Crescent for a couple of minutes. But in mitigation added: “He does recognise he should not have been in that place regardless of intent.”
Magistrates imposed an immediate eight-week prison sentence, concluding that this could not be suspended because Ali’s breach of the order was persistent.
