A man has appeared in court accused of intentionally attacking, strangling and threatening a woman with a knife in Carlisle.
Callum Shane Fox, 25, faces a number of charges following alleged incidents at a home in the Raffles area earlier this week.
It is alleged that on August 25 Fox unlawfully and maliciously caused a woman grievous bodily harm with intent to do so.
A second charge alleges that Fox intentionally strangled the same woman on the same date.
A third charge alleges that he threatened the woman with a knife in private — at an address on Raffles Avenue — also on August 25.
Fox did not enter pleas to any of these three charges when he made a brief appearance at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Prosecutor Diane Jackson alleged that the woman had been slapped punched and had knives thrown at her, which missed. It was further alleged that Fox held a sharp knife against the woman’s throat; kicked her to the head and body; and strangled her.
The woman was said to have suffered a fractured rib, swollen windpipe and extensive bruising.
The case was sent by magistrates to Carlisle Crown Court.
Fox, of Hilltop Avenue, Desborough, North Northamptonshire, is due to appear there in front of a judge for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 29. In the meantime he has been remanded in custody.
