A photograph of police officers on a cherry picker by a lamppost with a Union flag in South Cumbria has sparked ‘wild flag rumours’.
Cumbria police took to social media to say: “Talk about perfect timing, a photo mid-CCTV install has sparked some wild flag rumours.
“Just to clarify, no flags were harmed in the making of this CCTV installation.
“The photo shows officers fitting a camera at a local church after reports of vandalism.
“The flag stayed exactly where it was. Please share to help stop the spread of misinformation and keep the facts flying high.”
Councils have said that any unauthorised flags, posters, banners or other items attached to highways infrastructure without permission would be removed to avoid causing distractions to road users and damaging infrastructure.
Highways are the responsibility of local authorities.
