Workington Comets management and fans will have an eye on the Scottish derby tonight.
Glasgow host rivals Edinburgh at Ashfield in a meeting which will resolve top spot in the Cab Direct Championship.
The Tigers, who won the reverse fixture at Armadale last week, need a victory to overhaul Poole and become league leaders ahead of the play-offs.
But there is also incentive for the Monarchs who require one more point to mathematically secure their play-off place, which could still come under threat especially if Workington win their final three matches.
Glasgow welcome back Villads Nagel and track Dayle Wood at reserve in place of the injured Max Perry, whilst Edinburgh name a full-strength line-up.
- GLASGOW: Chris Harris, Villads Nagel, Dan Thompson, Leon Flint, Kyle Howarth, Dayle Wood, Freddy Hodder.
- EDINBURGH: Victor Palovaara, Paco Castagna, Justin Sedgmen, Michael Palm Toft, Kye Thomson, Jonatan Grahn, Jordy Loftus.
Final fixture for Scorpions
Workington fans might also be following events at Scunthorpe where the Scorpions ride their final fixture of the season in the Cab Direct Championship at home to Redcar in the reverse of last week’s feisty encounter on Teesside.
The Bears won that match 55-35 and require just the aggregate point tonight to officially book their place in the play-offs.
The return at the Eddie Wright Raceway will be the first time Scorpions racer Jake Allen and Bears captain Charles Wright, a former Comet, will have met since their controversial post-race clash last Friday.
Scunthorpe bring in Ben Trigger to guest for the injured Declan Kennedy, whilst Workington’s Antti Vuolas replaces the unwell Erik Riss for Redcar.
Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “All we can do is try and end a poor season on a high note with a win which might, just might, mean we dodge the wooden spoon.
“The incident with Jake Allen and Charles Wright last week will add a little bit of extra spice to the meeting.”
Redcar reserve Ace Pijper, who rode for the Comets two years ago in the National Development League, said: “I like the Scunthorpe track, we don’t want to go to Scunthorpe and lose for the second time this season so hopefully we can turn the tables on the Scorpions.
“It’s going well for me at the moment, but I’ve got to keep focused and not get carried away and then things should continue.”
Richard Lawson continues success
Meanwhile West Cumbrian Richard Lawson continues to rack up the points at both levels.
A maximum for Poole in the Championship on Wednesday was followed by a top score in the Premiership last night for King’s Lynn.
The Stars’ 50-40 win over Belle Vue at the Adrian Flux Arena means the defending champions are locked into fourth place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership ahead of the play-offs.
The Stars kept up the strong run which has underlined their position as best of the rest outside the top four, and back-to-back 5-1s in Heats 9 and 10 proved crucial to the outcome.
Lawson was impressive once again with 13+1 from five rides, including wins in Heats 14 and 15 as the home side secured the aggregate point despite facing the Aces’ powerhouse top two in the last race.
Lawson beat fellow Cumbrian star Dan Bewley and Brady Kurtz in the last as he continued his excellent run of form.
Kurtz and Bewley both scored 11 for the Aces.
