Former Barrow manager Pete Wild made a triumphant return to Holker Street with his new club Fleetwood Town.
A single goal from Ryan Graydon on 37 minutes divided the two sides in the end.
But Barrow had to play with ten men from the 10th minute when skipper Niall Canavan was sent off for a clear case of denying Graydon a goal-scoring opportunity.
Home keeper Wyll Stanway was awarded the sponsors’ man of the match award, and that reflected his good work to keep the Fleetwood advantage to one goal.
Stanway had been brought into action before Barrow fell behind, doing well to keep out a free kick from Zech Medley and then another effort from Will Davies.
Although Fleetwood dominated for long spells ttafter Canavan’s departure, they were the side more relieved to hear the final whistle.
Barrow put in their best work over the last ten minutes, pushing hard despite the handicap.
They went close to a late equaliser when Fleetwood keeper Jay Lynch made, what turned out to be, his only serious save of the match on 87 minutes to keep out an effort from Jack Earing.
Lewis Shipley, match winning hero late-on against Notts County, had the ball in the net in stoppage time but the goal was disallowed for a foul on Lynch.
