Penrith’s senior sides had their second and final warm-up game last Friday against Creighton.

It was predominately a second team affair but did include the odd first teamer.

Penrith proved far to pacey for their visitors from Carlisle in the first of the three 25 minute periods of play but Creighton stuck manfully to their task and things were much closer in the second and third sections.

After an even opening the home side opened the scoring after a penalty was kicked to the corner.

The ball was secured from the line-out and after a drive for the line Morgan Bland was left with the easiest of tasks unmarked on the short side when Ashton Hook spotted him in the clear.

Following a high tackle, another kick to the corner and a line-out Josh King claimed the second try.

A sweeping back move saw the home side add a third try ending with Peter Gower and Nick Dudson putting Rob Coward in the clear.

The same three players combined minutes later for the next try which they ran in from their own 22 for Coward’s second score.

Jack Tunnicliffe was having an influential game putting himself about and added a fifth try as the first period ended.

Tunnicliffe claimed a second try with a drive from close range to start the second session and then the visitors had a sustained period of possession and territory and deservedly crossed for a try of their own.

Bland then added a second try wide on the right after good work by the pacey Darren Lee and Dudson.

The final session saw Sonny Askins get himself on the scoresheet after some good all round team play and he then provided Dudson with a scoring pass for a deserved try after an excellent all-round performance.

The second team coaching team would be pleased with the performance of their whole squad of players and again a number of youngsters did well.

Young Olly Newton came on at scrum half as he had for the firsts the week before and showed an awful lot of promise.

This weekend the real business starts with the first team at Cleckheaton and the seconds at home to Kirkby Lonsdale.

The squad was: Gaskell, King, Hall, Bland, Austwick, Hodgson, Jackman, Tunnicliffe, Hook, Ryder, Mason, Gower, Rossi, Coward, Dudson, Gates, Kingswood, Newton, Johnson, Askins, Lee.
