Penrith and Kendal Town both lost their latest Northern League games against teams in the top five.
All square, 2-2 at half-time at Horden, Penrith were eventually beaten 3-2 with the winner coming midway through the second-half.
The main problem for the Bonnyblues this season has been their inability to put out a consistent eleven, and manager Jim Nichols had to make six changes for the trip to Horden.
If last week against Marske had been one of Penrith’s best performances under Nichols, this was one of the poorest.
They went 2-0 down to goals from Jason Blackburn (8) and Jack Pounder (19) but got themselves back into it with two goals inside three minutes just before half-time.
Connor Shields scored on 42 minutes and ex-Windscale forward Kevin Jolly (45) scored his first goal for the club.
Horden got away with what should have been a clear red card and won the game in the 69th minute with a goal from David Doughty.
You can hear what Jim Nichols thought of the game below:
Kendal have been hit with too many absentees in recent weeks and some of their younger players are having to stand-up and be counted earlier than planned.
They have some promising youngsters among them but have been a wee bit short on experience of late.
They weren’t complaining about a 3-1 defeat at Guisborough but with just minutes remaining it was 2-1 and Kendal were going well.
But the game was settled in the 89th minute with a third Guisborough goal from Kurtis Howes.
Veteran striker Jason Walker had pulled Kendal into it with a goal on 76 minutes.
James Frazer had given the hosts the lead after 13 minutes and it was doubled by Thomas Birtles after 58 minutes.
The game was watched by 415 fans, the second highest Northern League crowd of the day.
You can hear the views of Kendal chairman Michael O’Neill below:
Kendal drop to ninth with Carlisle City and Penrith 12th and 13th respectively.
