A Cumbrian MP is hosting a meeting to discuss the so-called Penrith pong.
Markus Campbell-Savours, MP for Penrith and Solway, is holding a public meeting on Thursday September 25 after a survey was carried out on the smell that often appears in the town.
A total of 250 people responded to the survey, which was carried out by the MP.
Markus Campbell-Savours said: “I want to discuss the findings of my survey and how the industrial odours affect my constituents.
“I have collected data and met with the Environment Agency and Westmorland and Furness Council and now want to sit face to face with residents to hear how it is impacting their lives.
“My team and I will be joined by the tireless campaigner against the problem – Jeff Thomson – from Fresh Air for Penrith. Please come along to Castletown Community Centre and share your experience.”
People can report incidents of the smell appearing in the town by doing the following:
- Online: Report Environmental Problem – Gov.UK
- Email: [email protected]
- Telephone: 0800 80 70 60 (24 hours a day)
The Environment Agency said: “If you believe Omega Proteins may be the source of odours in Penrith you should also report this directly to the company as soon as possible.
“This will mean the company can quickly investigate the report. This is particularly important with intermittent odour.
“You can contact the company on 07976 857 435 or email: [email protected]“
