The weather has taken a hand once again in the weekend plans of Cumbrian racing pigeon enthusiasts.
It’s the season’s final race from Stratford-upon-Avon and changing weather forecasts are causing problems.
The original thought was for a Friday race but that did not materialise and now tomorrow has been declared a no-go.
About 48 hours ago the forecast for Sunday was for strong winds, reaching nearly 50mph, but that is now said to be more likely on Monday.
It is the only Cumbria Combine race in the young bird programme and officials want to complete it, but clearly not if conditions are inappropriate.
With a generally poor young bird season several fanciers have already put them away for next season and others won’t take much persuasion to join them in light of weather concerns.
Race controller Neil Buchanan, in his latest up-date, said: “Due to the predicted forecast of rain in the North West for Saturday we are putting the race back 24 hours to Sunday which doesn’t look the best at present.
“We will be having another look at the forecast and updating tomorrow morning.”
