Budget supermarket chain Aldi has revealed plans to build a new store in a north Cumbrian town and create up to 40 jobs.
The firm has applied for permission from Cumberland Council to build the supermarket in Wigton.
It wants to build the new store on Proctor’s Row, on land which was occupied by Hope’s Auction Mart until it relocated to Sykes Road in 2013.
The buildings were demolished in 2017.
If the supermarket gets the go-ahead, it would have 96 car parking spaces.
It said it had consulted with the community about its plans, including adverts and flyers delivered to 2,000 addresses.
A total of 255 people provided views. Of them, 87% were in favour of the proposals, Aldi said.
The planning application is currently under consideration by Cumberland Council.
