Autumn walks

Cumbria’s landscapes are at their most magical in autumn. Here are some of the best walks to enjoy the crunch of leaves underfoot and stunning seasonal views:
Aira Force waterfall walk is a classic Lakeland walk with dramatic waterfalls, ancient woodland, and plenty of leaf-crunching paths. Look out for red squirrels!
Broomhill Point Viewpoint is a lesser-known gem with sweeping views across the landscape, making it perfect for a quiet moment to take in the colours of the season.
Champion Tree Trail, Ambleside, here you can discover some of the tallest and oldest trees in the Lake District on this trail through Skelghyll Woods. A great mix of nature, history, and autumn colour.
Elterwater to Skelwith Bridge is a scenic riverside walk with stunning views of the Langdale Pikes, peaceful woodland, and a cosy café stop at the end.
Sizergh Holeslack Accessible Trail is a 1.9km circular walk starting at the house at winding through ancient woodland, traditional Westmorland orchards, and historic farm buildings. There’s a café on site, plus the woodland wild play trail to explore.
Tarn Hows Loop is one of the most picturesque spots in the Lakes, this circular walk offers reflections of autumn trees in the water and panoramic views of the fells and there’s a Joey’s Café in the car park.
