A major Workington road will be closed from tonight for the weekend.

Ramsay Brow will be closed from 8pm today, Friday September 19 until 6am on Monday September 22.

The A66 at Ramsay Brow is being remodelled as part of the Workington Gateway project.

It is one of the projects part of the £33 million regeneration of Workington town centre led by Cumberland Council.

It is hoped the project will improve access to businesses and industrial parks for HGVs.

It is the second successive weekend closure of the road.

The road is also due to be closed:

  • Friday September 26, 8pm to Monday September 29, 6am: Additional full weekend closure
  • Friday October 3 to Monday October 6: Contingency closure if required

Impact on public transport and services

  • Bus services: During the Ramsay Brow roadworks, the X4/X5 services will be unable to serve stops on Ramsay Brow, Stainburn and Clifton during the closures. From Workington, the service will divert via the A596 towards Lillyhall, and continue along the A595 to rejoin the normal service at Bridgefoot roundabout. This diversion will apply in both directions.
  • Waste collections: There will be no disruptions to scheduled waste and recycling collections during the work.
