
Carlisle City moved up to sixth in the Northern League table after a 1-0 win at Birtley Town.
City had been held 1-1 by Birtley at Gillford Park 10 days ago but a gritty, determined performance saw them through this one to collect the points.
They are now level with Cumbrian rivals Kendal Town who occupy the final play-off position, although City have played four more games.
It was a game of few chances although the home side had the best of all from the penalty spot two minutes into the second half.
But Scott Simons proved equal to the task, producing the save to deny James Proctor.
The winning goal came on 68 minutes when Jordan Palmer scored with a clever glancing header.
