Police have confirmed that two young men initially arrested after a worker was injured outside the Sellafield site will face no further action.
Officers arrested four people following the incident outside Calder Gate on Wednesday, September 17, including a 50-year-old man, a 52-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man.
Members of the Unite union who work for contractors on the Sellafield nuclear site were outside the gate as part of industrial action over pay.
One pedestrian — a 55-year-old man — was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, with serious injuries before being transferred to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary.
A second man, 39, also attended hospital with minor injuries and was later discharged.
Cumbria police said today, Monday, September 22, that there would be no further action taken against the 16-year-old and 19-year-old.
Craig Fawcett, 50, of Seascale Hall, Seascale, and Albert Darren Fawcett, 52, of Whynncop, Gosforth, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court last Thursday, September 18.
Craig Fawcett faces a charge which alleges that he caused serious injury to the victim by the dangerous driving of a Polaris Ranger vehicle, on the Sellafield to Seascale road, on September 17.
It is alleged that Craig Fawcett drove directly at a group of people, causing them to take evasive action.
Albert Darren Fawcett faces a separate charge that he drove an Isuzu truck dangerously on the same road, on the same date.
They both pleaded not guilty and the case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court, where they are due to appear in front of a judge for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Monday October 20.
