Kendal’s Manna House, which supports people who are homeless or vulnerably housed in South Lakeland, is holding an open day next month.
The charity, based at The Stephenson Centre on Ann Street, will open its doors on Sunday October 5 so people can learn more about its work.
Coinciding with Homelessness Sunday, the charity said it was important to remind people of the ongoing struggles faced by people who were without stable housing.
Charles Cowling, chair of trustees, said: “Westmorland and Furness, a delightful place to live, work and play, would be much the poorer without Manna House to provide a safety net for those who fall through the cracks of mainstream life.
“Manna House plans to remain upright for as long as we are needed, with our arms open wide and our welcome undiminished.
Manna House provides practical and emotional support with:
- A drop-in centre offering food, hot drinks and a welcoming space.
- Housing and benefits advice to help people secure stable accommodation and navigate support systems.
- Activities such as the Skills Café, Learning Kitchen, Conversation Café, sewing groups and allotment work, which help people gain skills and confidence.

It also has an outdoor pod, recently granted permanent planning permission, which provides emergency night shelter for one person who would otherwise be sleeping rough.
It will be open for people to see at the open day, which runs from 10am to noon.

Chief officer Andrea Aldridge said: “Our open day is a chance for people to see what we do and how they can support us.
“We welcome everyone in the community who is curious, caring or concerned to find out more; we would love to recruit more Friends of Manna House and I’m sure a visit is all it will take.”
