Former Workington rider Richard Lawson had to settle for second last night in the prestigious Blue Riband individual meeting at Poole.
Lawson finished second despite a disqualification at the tapes in Heat 5 due to a loose throttle.
His Poole team-mate Anders Rowe took the honours at Wimborne Road scoring 14 points from five rides but admitted he nearly withdrew from the meeting with ill health.
Rowe dropped his only point to Pirates captain Zach Cook, who himself missed out on the rostrum and Adam Ellis was third after recovering from a retirement in his first ride.
Rowe said: “About 2am on the way back from Glasgow I was ready to pull out as I was feeling pretty lousy. I’ve not felt too good all day so maybe I should be like that all the time and get the results!
“Winning here feels good and the cash prize will be very useful. It’s a long winter for sure, and with what I want to be doing next year with my racing it means I have got more money to spend on my equipment.”
Former Comet Paul Starke scored eight and Danish prospect Kevin J Pedersen, who rode at Workington on Saturday just missed out on the final with nine points.
Comets reserve Vinnie Foord, back at his old track scored 4 which included a win in his first outing.
