A shoplifter has been banned from several shops and supermarkets in Penrith for five years.

David Ostle, 33, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court last week, charged with two counts of shoplifting.

Cumbria police’s Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team also secured a criminal behaviour order against Ostle.

Breaches of the conditions of an order can lead to an arrest and punishment can be up to five years in prison.

Ostle does not need to have committed any offences while in the shops to breach to order.

Ostle is banned from:

  • Sainsbury’s Common Garden Square, Penrith
  • Spar on Sandgate, Penrith
  • B&M on Middlegate, Penrith
  • B&M on Bridge Lane, Penrith
  • Morrisons on Brunswick Road, Penrith
  • M&S Foodhall on King Street, Penrith

PC Stewart Green, of Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We hope by securing this order it will provide the local community with some reassurance.

“The order will help protect business owners and local residents.

“I would encourage anyone who witnesses Ostle breaching terms of the order to contact police.”

Anyone with any information regarding breaches can contact police via 101 or 999 in an emergency.
