Upper Eden RUFC are opening their doors to celebrate the Red Roses’ victory with pioneer of the sport Carol Isherwood.
The club is hosting the celebration for the community this Sunday October 5 following the Red Roses’ record breaking World Cup victory and an outstanding summer of women’s sport.
Pioneer and World Rugby hall of fame inductee Carol Isherwood OBE, will be joining the celebrations.
Carol captained the first ever Great Britain and England women’s sides of the mid-80s, played in the first women’s world cup and was recognised with an OBE for her impact on the sport as a player, coach and administrator.
The celebrations are free to attend and will start at the club at 9.15am and last until 2.30pm.
Headlining the day will be the players of the junior section, with the first ever girls event in the history of Upper Eden as the newly formed Under 12 and Under 14 girls welcome Penrith, Keswick, Cockermouth and Tri Counties for a joint session.
Under seven’s and Under 11s teams will also be taking to the pitch, hosting Barnard Castle RUFC.
The club will replay the World Cup Final on the big screen and will serve coffee, breakfast and lunch alongside a range of activities.
These include a fitness session from CK Fitness, pilates with AB sports therapy and sports massages and tropic skincare from Andrea Ostle.
Children’s activities including face painting, crafting, a cake stall, rugby games and an energetic demo and class from Stepping Stones School dance troupe will also take place.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event and encouraged to show up to celebrate the Red Roses’ historic win.
