A £4m project to upgrade 11km of water mains in north Cumbria has begun.
United Utilities is replacing the mains between Oughterby, near Carlisle, and Wigton with more durable, flexible pipework.
The water firm said the replacement mains were built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations to protect against bursts and reduce leaks.
The five-month project will be carried out in sections starting in Oughterby, through Wiggonby and Thursby before completing in Wigton.
