They beat West Auckland 2-1 at Parkside Road without being at their best.
Indeed if it hadn’t been for goalkeeper Chris Cheetham they would have been out of contention by half-time.
His important stops kept the Mintcakes level although on a couple of occasions he needed the post to come to his aid.
West Auckland did go ahead just before half-time with a penalty from Finley O’Gorman.
Kendal got level on 68 minutes through the game sponsor’s man of the match Jack Milburn.
Then in a dramatic finish the visitors had West Auckland had Oscar Eckley-Aldsworth sent off for a bad tackle after 86 minutes.
In the first minute of time added on Josh Winder grabbed the winner for Kendal.
That made it 12 wins from 15 games under the new management group – and a challenging place in the top three.
