The bomb squad were called to blow up 18 pieces of ordnance found on a West Cumbrian beach.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Millom Coastguard Rescue Team were called out on Tuesday afternoon, October 7, to investigate a number of possible ordnance on Drigg beach, reported by a member of public.
Once teams arrived on the scene, they had a small window of time between the tides to locate, identify, mark and pass back the relevant information to the Army EOD bomb disposal squad and control room.

But with the tide on its way back in and daylight lost, the team departed the area.
Teams then planned on Wednesday to detonate the ordnance today, before the bomb squad were redeployed to a higher priority elsewhere.

Teams were then redeployed this morning at 6am to Drigg, where Coastguard Rescue Officers worked alongside the bomb squad to ready the area and establish a large safety cordon.
A total of 18 artillery shells were safely detonated in two controlled explosions.
