An ‘apologetic’ couple were rescued after getting stuck on a Lake District fell in the dark.
Keswick Mountain Rescue were called out to the pair on Sunday October 12 at around 7.09pm on Base Brown.
The walkers had been spending time enjoying the sunshine above a cloud inversion on Green Gable before the decided to start heading down as daylight was fading.
But the pair took a wrong turn and rather than taking an easier path down to Gillercombe, they ended up on steep terrain on the nose of Base Brown.
The duo were in darkness without torches and worried about ending up in a worse situation if they continued, they made a call for help.
A small group of rescuers from were sent to help the couple – who the team said were very apologetic – and back rope them to safer ground.
The call out lasted three hours and 21 minutes and involved five team members.
All of the Lake District’s mountain rescue teams are made up entirely of volunteers.
