Workington Reds fans, with a wide knowledge of non-league football, will no doubt scan the crowd at Morpeth tomorrow.
It’s very likely that a potential applicant for the Reds manager’s job will be taking a sneak preview of what he might inherit.
The board have given until next Saturday, October 25, for applications as they seek a replacement for Darren Edmondson.
It will be a good game to assess the side as their clash with Morpeth is already being labelled a six pointer.
Morpeth, from the same number of games, are the only team below Workington in the NPL Premier Division table and trail by a point.
Reds have won once and drawn three times wile Morpeth have a win and two draws to their name.
They had a game in hand but lost on Tuesday night, beaten 2-1 at home by Cleethorpes.
JJ Hooper, briefly a Workington player, had given them a first half lead but they conceded twice after the break to lose out.
Hooper, now 32, played four times in the 2012/13 season when he joined Reds on loan from Newcastle, signed by Edmondson. He scored one goal and since then has had a varied career, fluctuating between league and non-league.
Ten goals in 51 games for Port Vale was his best return, and his longest stay.
Other clubs in a long list include Northampton, Grimsby, Wrexham, Barnet and more recently South Shields, Blyth Spartans and Spennymoor.
Nick Bollado, another forward with Cumbrian connections is also in the Morpeth squad.
He was with Carlisle United as a teenager before joining Stockport County and went on loan to FC United of Manchester in 2023 scoring six times in 13 games.
He joined Morpeth midway through the 2023/24 season and is now described as a fans’ favourite.
He celebrates his 21st birthday on Saturday, so Reds stand-in management team of Brian Dawson and Billy Redden will be hoping to spoil his party.
