Youngsters throw objects from West Cumbrian bridge

Police said youngsters have been reported as throwing objects off a bridge in a West Cumbrian town.

Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team said they were called to the incident today, Saturday October 18, in Workington.

It comes as a dispersal order has been issued for the town centre, which runs until midnight tomorrow, Sunday October 19.

The order gives police extra powers to break up gatherings of people if they believe their behaviour is causing, or is likely to cause harassment or distress.

It is the second dispersal order for the town after anti-social behaviour from young people last weekend.

Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “One youth has been dispersed from the town centre for the second time in six days and he has been taken home.

“He will be dealt with in due course.

“There are enquiries ongoing to identify others involved in throwing objects from the bridge and they can expect a knock at their door too.

“We will not accept this behaviour in our town and again, officers will be patrolling the areas throughout the afternoon and evening.

“We again ask parents to check where their children are and advise them to avoid the town centre this evening or risk being dispersed from the area should they be involved in any incidents.”
