A crown court plea hearing in the case of a woman accused of attempting to murder two police officers has been postponed for a third time.
Hannah Smaile, 25, presently faces four charges.
Two allege that she attempted to murder two police constables — one male and one female — who were called to Smaile’s Lister Court home in the city at around 9.30am on May 28 this year.
Additional charges allege that Smaile threatened the two PCs with a knife in a private place at Lister Court on that date.
It has been previously said that the female officer sustained a wound to her nose during the incident.
The male PC is said to have sustained cuts to his finger. Both officers were treated in hospital following the incident, and then discharged.
Smaile appeared at Carlisle Crown Court in June, for a hearing at which she was due to enter pleas to the charges.
That hearing was adjourned by a judge who heard that Smaile’s legal team were intending to seek a psychiatric assessment of the defendant.
When the case was heard again, on September 5, the plea hearing was postponed again after submissions by lawyers in the case.
Smaile appeared at the crown court again this morning. Charges were due to have been formally put to her. But Judge Nicholas Barker adjourned the hearing for a third time.
Judge Barker heard that key information which was due to have been supplied by a senior Crown Prosecution Service regional manager was not yet available to the court.
Smaile attended today’s five-minute hearing remotely via a video link, speaking only to confirm her name.
She is next due to appear in court on November 7.
In the meantime Smaile, latterly of Lister Court, Carlisle, remains remanded in custody.
