Investigations are continuing into a bus fire that closed a major West Cumbrian road.
Emergency services were called to the A595 Distington bypass on Thursday afternoon.
The Stagecoach double-decker, which was not in service at the time, was involved in the incident near Parton.
Three fire crews tackled the blaze and the road was closed for some time.
The section of road had to be resurfaced overnight on Friday.
A Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire spokesman said: “We can confirm that we are continuing to investigate the cause of the engine fire.
“We’re co-operating closely with the relevant authorities to understand what happened, and our engineers will carry out a full assessment of the vehicle.
“Safety is our absolute priority and we operate a rigorous preventative maintenance programme across all our depots.”
On Friday September 12, a bus caught fire on the A69.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service sent three crews to the scene, between Corby Hill and Hayton.
At the time, Stagecoach said the engine had suffered a catastrophic failure.
Today, the spokesman said: “The earlier incident in September was thoroughly investigated, and there was no evidence to suggest a wider issue affecting the fleet.
“At this stage, the two incidents are not believed to be connected.
“All of our vehicles undergo regular and comprehensive safety checks, and if any concerns are identified we take immediate action.
“We want to reassure our customers and colleagues that travelling by bus continues to be one of the safest modes of public transport.”
