A new edition of a Cumbria-based video game has launched.

Inspired by the 1957 Windscale disaster, Atomfall is a survival-action game with horror elements based in a post-nuclear apocalypse version of Cumbria and the Lake District.

Developers Rebellion officially released the base game earlier this year, but have now launched a new complete edition of the game.

The new edition gives players the chance to buy the game, its two expansion packs and all of the new content created by developers since its launch, in one bundle.

Alongside the new edition, Rebellion have also released a free game-changing update for current players.

The update include the introduction of a ‘rapid travel network’ which allows players to fast travel to key regions across the in-game map.

A phobia safe mode has also been added, allowing players to change things like rats, bats, birds or other creatures in game into moving Cornish pasties.

Three new elite weapons have also been added to the game alongside major improvements to combat throughout the base game and its two story expansion packs.

A location save allowing players to return to the last location they entered if they get stuck has also been added to the game.

More hidden content from Rebellion’s popular Sniper Elite franchise has also been added for players to discover.

Since the game’s launch, Rebellion have been busy tweaking and updating the game based on community feedback.

It has also released two expansion packs Wicked Isle and The Red Strain, which can be bought separately or as part of the complete edition to add additional story experiences to the main game.

Both expansion packs add entirely new locations to the game as well as new characters, enemies, leads to follow, weapons, skills, items and more.

Wicked Isle adds ‘Midsummer Island’ to the game, a location based near the Windscale Atom Plant in game that has new enemy factions and draws on folk horror elements.

The Red Strain takes place on a fellside in the game on Test Site Moriah, a secret research base location where a deadly virus is leaking into the open.

Both expansion packs also add multiple new ending options to the main game.

A total of over 2.5 million people have played Atomfall so far since its launch and it has been well reviewed by critics.

Earlier this year, we were lucky enough to speak with art director Ryan Greene about the Cumbrian influences behind the game – read more here.

Atomfall complete edition is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows PC and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Atomfall is also certified on Steam Deck.
