A stalwart of Westmorland football has been honoured after 50 years of service to the grassroots sport.
Richard Medcalf, known as Plugger, has been a cornerstone of local football in his community.
As a player, Plugger spent time at Workington Town and Kendal County but Milnthorpe Corinthians was where he spent the majority of his playing career.
From 1988 to 1998, he served as assistant manager of the Corinthians reserves team, and since 2001, he’s been a vital part of the club’s committee, currently holding the role of vice president.
His unwavering commitment and passion for the game and the club have left a lasting legacy.
The FA’s prestigious 50-Year Service Award was presented by Peter McDonnell, vice chair of the Westmorland County FA.
He said: “The special moment captured the admiration and respect of everyone present for Plugger.
“Thank you, Plugger, for everything you’ve given to the game and to Milnthorpe Corinthians.”
