Penrith day nurseries sold to chain for undisclosed sum

A pair of Penrith day nurseries have been sold to a chain for an undisclosed sum.

Kiddlywinks Nursery, on Gillian Way, has been purchased by Kids Planet Day Nurseries, which owns over 240 nurseries across the UK.

The Penrith nursery was run by founder Karen James for 22 years, who made the decision to sell due to retirement.

Both nurseries are rated outstanding by Ofsted and have a combined capacity for up to 154 children.

Since 2003, the nurseries have attracted parents from across the local area and surrounding towns and both nurseries have benefited from dedicated, long-serving teams.

While Karen is stepping away from the nursery, both of her daughters will remain as managers.

Christie & Co has carried out the sale.

Sofia Beck, director of childcare and education at at Christie & Co, said: “We could see that Karen’s two lovely settings were a clear fit for Kids Planet’s growing portfolio, especially given that they previously didn’t have a presence in Penrith and had just recently entered into the Cumbrian nursery market.

“It was great to assist Karen with her exit and also to see her two daughters remain in situ as the nursery managers, ensuring the ethos she has instilled lives on under Kids Planet’s ownership.

“We’d like to wish Karen and her family all the best for the future and congratulations to Kids Planet for the new addition to their family.”
