Nobody is believed to have been injured.

The road was closed to allow firefighters to work safely and has now reopened as of 7.38pm this evening.

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said: “Firefighters worked tirelessly for more than four hours to extinguish a fire in a commercial food takeaway shop on Main Street, Egremont on Saturday.

“Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service was mobilised at 4.12pm, with four fire engines from Workington, Whitehaven, Egremont and Maryport attending and firefighters using a covering jet, two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.”
