
A man has been arrested following protests in Carlisle.
Cumbria Police said the 52-year-old, from the city, was arrested at 9.30am, prior to the protest, on suspicion of:
- Displaying threatening written material with intent to stir hatred
- Assault by beating of an emergency worker
- Possession of a class B drug – Cannabis
He remains in police custody.
Chief Superintendent Andy Wilkinson from Cumberland BCU said “We would like to thank the organisers of both protest groups for working with our officers in advance of today’s planned protests.
“Our priority is always to ensure the safety of our communities, balancing the right to protest and prevent crime, disorder and disruption.”
