There will be two chances to enjoy Cockermouth’s independent shops, pubs and eateries at late night shopping events this festive season.
Spirit of Christmas is now in its 14th year and, thanks to demand, will be held on two nights, Thursday November 27 and Thursday December 11.
The town’s Christmas lights will be glowing, there will be music on the streets and in businesses, the shops will light their doorways with candle lanterns, and many will offer tasty snacks and drinks. The restaurants, pubs and bars will be open for warming meals and refreshment.
Cockermouth Rotary will be selling popcorn, while Cockermouth WI will be offering mince pies and mulled wine.
Castlegate Singers and Cockermouth Ukuleles will perform at the first event, with Jennings Brewery hosting carol singers on the second date.
There is free parking in all of Cumberland Council’s car parks apart from Sainsbury’s, and also at Castlegate and Derwent Surgery.
Shoppers will also have the chance to be entered into a free prize draw to win a hamper of gifts and vouchers worth over £2,000. Just make a purchase at a participating business, leave contact details with them, and the winner will be chosen at random in December.
Spirit of Christmas is organised by Cockermouth & District Chamber of Trade.
Joe Murray, co-chair of the chamber, said: “Come and discover everything Cockermouth has to offer this Christmas – we have all you need for the festive season. From food and drink to unique gifts, toys and books, as well as all the necessities, like your Christmas dinner ingredients, homewares and hardware, clothes and shoes too.
“Before you leave, you could stop for something to eat or enjoy a drink in the cafes, restaurants or pubs. If you’re planning your festive gatherings, you could even recommend our brilliant holiday accommodation to your friends and family for a winter break.
“We really know how to celebrate Christmas in Cockermouth – come and see for yourself!”
