People interested in joining North Cumbria Search and Rescue are invited to a recruitment event this weekend.
The event will be held at Carlisle East Fire station, on Saturday, November 22, between 1pm and 3pm.
Team leader Duncan Sanders will hold a short presentation at 1.30pm, with a Q&A afterwards and an opportunity to meet some of the team.
The team said: “We’re looking for both operational and non-operational voluntary team members and we invite those interested in joining the team to come along to find out more.”
Volunteers must be 18-plus.
The team is on call 24/7 and work with local emergency services across our inland waterways.
As well as search and rescue call outs and team training, it takes part in numerous water safety outreach events across Carlisle and north Cumbria, and also local fundraising activities.
Duncan, who is also a trustee of North Cumbria Search and Rescue, said: “We are privileged to have a committed and dedicated team of volunteers, many of whom have been with the team since we formally set up the charity in 2019.
“It was Storm Desmond, and other local flooding events, that inspired us to create the team and we are now a fully trained Carlisle based search and rescue asset who work alongside local emergency services on both water and land and we are here to help relieve suffering and distress amongst persons endangered by accidents or natural hazards.”
In the last 12 months, its team of 40 had contributed 3,500 volunteer hours supporting the local community.
The team added: “We are all volunteers and rely on the kindness of donations and grants from across the local community to stay operational.”
