Mystery surrounds the future of The Range in Workington.
The homeware store was given the go-ahead by Cumberland Council in July to open the new store at Dunmail Park Shopping Centre.
It said at the time it would create around 65 jobs.
Its plans included a garden centre at the centre, which is owned by Dixons.
However, when Cumbria Crack asked the firm what its plans were for the store, it declined to comment.
The Range said it had been looking for an appropriate site in the town for several years and Workington is still listed on its website as one of its prospective sites.
The firm said it would also run The Terrace Café, which was also operated by Dixons.
Owners Dixons closed its home store at the shopping centre last year after 36 years.
In a letter to its customers at the time, the family-run Dixons said following a review, it was shutting the Dunmail Park outlet so it could concentrate on the development of its Whitehaven department store.
Dixons built Dunmail Park in 1988.
The firm initially occupied the majority of the shopping centre’s footprint, but moved when Asda moved in in 2010.
