Dunmail Park Shopping Centre

The Range has been given the go-ahead to open in Workington – creating around 65 jobs.

Cumberland Council granted planning permission this week for the new store, at Dunmail Park Shopping Centre, owned by Dixons.

It will also include a garden centre and the Terrace Cafe, which was operated by Dixons, will be run by The Range.

The store is estimated to create 65 new jobs in the area according to the plans, with 42 full-time equivalent positions.

The Range’s owner said it had been looking for an appropriate site in the town for several years.

Owners Dixons closed its home store at the shopping centre last year after 36 years.

In a letter to its customers at the time, the family-run Dixons said following a review, it was shutting the Dunmail Park outlet so it could concentrate on the development of its Whitehaven department store.

Dixons built Dunmail Park in 1988. The firm initially occupied the majority of the shopping centre’s footprint, but moved when Asda moved in in 2010.

It is not known when The Range will open.
