
The latest round of matches saw some thrilling encounters as battle for individual honours continues in the Derwent Valley Asbestos Removals Individual League.
Dave Chapman came through a tense Division One battle to defeat Peter O’Hagan 3-2 and earn his first victory of the campaign.
Chapman made the perfect start, edging the opening frame to take an early lead. O’Hagan quickly responded in the second, compiling a break of 44 to tie the match.
The third frame saw O’Hagan seize control with a solid performance to move into a 2-1 lead while Chapman then showed his resilient qualities with a steady display to bring the match back to level terms and force a deciding frame.
With everything on the line, Chapman held his nerve brilliantly, producing his best scoring form of the night to complete an impressive mini comeback securing an overall 3-2 victory.
Ryan Ismay continued his quest for the Division One title with a commanding performance against Mark Tunstall with a display of clinical finishing that left his opponent with few opportunities.
The tone was set early as Ismay delivered a fluent 73 break to take the opener with ease. Ismay maintained the pressure with further dominant wins in frames two and three.
A 39 break in the fourth was sufficient to extend Ismay’s lead to 4-0. The momentum continued in the final frame of the evening as Ismay comfortably sealed the whitewash to round off a flawless performance.
Kevin Basnett maintained his lead in the Division One title race with a close 3-2 victory over Andrew Mitchelhill.
Basnett opened in style with a 51 break to take the first frame in comfort. Mitchelhill fought back to edge the next two frames and move into a slender match lead at 2-1. Undeterred, Basnett hit back clinically to force a deciding frame and delivered an emphatic blow with a superb break of 66 to close the match in style.
Chris Hunter continued his pursuit of the Division Two title by overcoming Adam Sowden in a close 3-2 encounter.
Hunter made a blistering start, dominating the opening frame with confident potting and steady positional play. He extended his lead by edging a more closely fought second.
Frame three saw Sowden find some rhythm, as he established himself on the scoresheet with a dominant performance.
However, Hunter refused to let his grip on the match slip away, and responded in a composed manner to seal frame four and the match.

In the final frame, Sowden showed his competitive qualities, holding on to edge a narrow consolatory frame. Hunter’s 3-2 victory keeps him in touching distance of Divisional leader Stephen Jackson.
In an earlier postponed fixture, Adam Sowden once again found himself in a match that went down to the wire. However, this time he was able to craft out a narrow 3-2 win over Paul Smith.
It was Smith who started with intent taking the initial frame comfortably to establish an early lead. Both players vied for control in the second, with the frame culminating in a black ball re-spot.
It was Sowden who held his nerve to ultimately clinch the frame and bring the match level at 1-1.
Sowden pulled ahead in the third, with a confident display to take a match lead at 2-1. The fourth was another close affair, coming down to the final black once again, and as before it Sowden who manage to come up with the goods to extend his lead to an unassailable 3-1 position.
In the final frame, Smith refused to back down, producing his best form of the night to win comfortably and minimise the losing deficit to a single frame. Sowden’s 3-2 victory leaves him comfortably in mid table.
In another previously postponed match Kevin Basnett produced a clinical display to whitewash Mark Tunstall 5–0 in their Division One clash.
Basnett set the tone early, taking the opening frame comfortably, showing excellent cueball control to capitalise on Tunstall’s early misses.
Basnett followed that up with a composed 59 break to wrap up the second frame. Despite some spirited resistance from Tunstall in the third frame, Basnett maintained his dominance, to extend his lead to 3-0, before stepping up another gear in frame four.
A fluent 66 break helped him secure a commanding win to move 4–0 ahead. In the final frame, Basnett completed the clean sweep, once again dominating the scoring to round off a faultless performance.
