Cartmel Racecourse has been rated among the best in the country.
The Cumbrian course has been given a rating of 83.88% by the AA Quality Assured Assessment, administered by the Racecourse Association.
It is Cartmel’s highest score in 10 years and it was audited by independent assessors.
The annual assessment measures the standard of raceday experience across all British racecourses, including facilities, customer service, atmosphere and amenities.
Its previous top score was 80 per cent in 2016.
Assessors visited the racecourse in August. They said: “Atmosphere and familiarity are the biggest themes. Visitors repeatedly mention how welcoming the course is, how good the value feels, and how much they enjoy the people around them.”
Geraldine McKay, general manager of Cartmel Racecourse, said: “This result is down to the hard work of our entire team.
“From the grounds staff and catering colleagues to the ticket office, security and volunteer stewards, everyone plays a part in making Cartmel a special place to visit.
“We are proud of this recognition, but above all it is our visitors’ enjoyment that motivates us to keep raising the standard.”
Cartmel is the third most popular jumps racecourse in Britain by average meeting attendance, surpassed by the courses of Aintree and Cheltenham.
