
After the severe frosts of the last couple of days the temperature for Penrith parkrun number 534 was a positively balmy 4 degrees Celsius.
288 runners, walkers and joggers took part along with 35 volunteers without whom there would be no parkrun so thank you to them.
Viola Nightingale was one of the volunteers, a regular photographer at various parkruns.
She snapped the happy smiling, or maybe grimacing, faces as they approached the finish line at the end of the two-lap course.
It was a landmark run for Jack Mountfield completing his 100th parkrun, his seventh one at Penrith.
There is no age barrier at parkruns and three girls from Hunter Hall School Running Club, in the 10 and under age category, were representative of those at the younger end.
Ellie Addis was first of the three home in an outstanding time of 23.54 closely followed by Iona Addis (24.08) and Beatrix Holliday (25.15). Well done all.
It’s always entertaining to see outlandish costumes at parkruns.

Mark McLellan and Mary Galashan provided the entertainment on this occasion both showing off the latest fashion in tutus!
Apparently there is a tradition at some parkruns that when it falls on the 22nd of the month participants are encouraged to wear such garments.
If you haven’t worked out the reason it’s simply because 22nd has two 2s in it! I wonder whether it will take off at Penrith.
Mum and son Susan and Alexander Walker from Sunderland were happily wearing Christmas attire. They were spending the weekend with family at Center Parcs ‘Winter Wonderland’ celebrating an early festive get-together.
First across the finish line today was Monte Watson from Highgate Harriers in 16.25, his first time at Penrith. First junior, in the 15-17 age range, was Arran Robinson in 16.45 (2nd overall) and the first female was Ava Leadbetter in 18.44, also a first timer here.

Some important information about next week’s parkrun: Saturday, November 29, Orange the World Penrith park run, 9am.
This is part of an international initiative to end violence against women and girls around the world and all are encouraged to wear something orange in support.
