Alan Heath, a respected officer at the former Allerdale Borough Council, died earlier this month.
For many years he was parks and cemeteries manager for the authority, but his name will live on largely though his work with Cumbria in Bloom.
A keen gardener, he was regularly asked to judge the competition which went alongside the project which he was instrumental in launching.
Alan, who was 86, was secretary of the Friends of Harrington Group and worked very closely with Workington Nature Partnership.
Workington Town Council, on social media said: “The council was sad to hear of the passing of Alan Heath. He was vice president of Cumbria in Bloom and played a huge part in making Workington what it is today.
“Workington welcomed him many times as a Cumbria in Bloom judge, always full of helpful ideas and suggestions. He was always good for a crack and a nice cup of tea.
“Thank you, Alan, for everything you did for Workington. We will miss you.”
The funeral service will take place at Blessed Hugh Catholic Church, Faringdon in Oxfordshire on Thursday at 1pm followed by a committal at South Oxfordshire Crematorium at 3pm.
Donations in memory of Alan will support Workington Community Hospital’s Ellerbeck Ward and Cumbria in Bloom.
Donations can be made to Jackson & Browning Independent Funeral Service Ltd, 14A Market Place, Faringdon, Oxon SN7 7HP.
