The popular Santa Dash returns to Carlisle this weekend to raise cash for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
The running event, which sees participants dash through the city centre dressed as Father Christmas, takes place on Sunday, December 7.
Since 2017, it has raised more than £65,000 for Jigsaw.
The event is a 5k dash and 2k fun run and walk that start from Sheepmount Athletics Stadium.
All runners must wear a Santa suit and those taking part in the race will need to collect their Santa suit tomorrow, Thursday, December 4, at Carlisle College between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, or on Saturday, December 6, at Morton Manor car park between 9.30am and 11am.
Race numbers are only required for the 5k Santa Dash and not the fun run/walk.
All suits are unisex and adults will be able to choose from the unisex or large youth suits.
The 5k will start near the Sheepmount stadium at 10am followed by the 2k from Victoria statue in Bitts Park at 11am. Those taking part in the 5k are welcome to join friends and family in the fun run/walk.
Family and friends planning to take photos of the dash and upload them to social media sites are asked to use the hashtag #carlislesantadash
All runners and fun runners/walkers will receive a festive medal on completion of their Santa Dash.
Jess Harrington, team lead at Eden Valley Hospice’s adult in-patient unit, said: “Every penny raised by the Santa Dashers helps us to provide round-the-clock care for patients and families facing the toughest of times, especially at Christmas, when every moment together is precious.”
Sport in Action, Carlisle Tri Club, DH Runners, Border Reiver Runners and all marshals will be giving up their time for free for the event and local companies are helping to raise money towards the Santa suits, medals and supply water, mince pies, treats and biscuits.
