Throstle A

The week’s biggest game in the Aspatria Pool League saw Sun Inn FC travel to Throstle A.

But it turned out to be pretty one-sided, with Throstle leading 6-0 after the singles, then winning the match 7-2.

David Barton and David Prescott, for Throstle, won both frames.

Miners A continue to push for the title with an easy 6-3 win over Greyhound Inn, who remain at the bottom of the league, still searching for that first win.

There were comfortable wins in the singles from Barry Cook, Stu Irwin, Mark Williams and Andrew Wilson for the Miners.

League leaders Sun Inn A travelled to Silloth to play Cumberland A, and although the Aspatria side won the match 7-2, it was closer than the scoreline suggested.

Home landlord Alan Todhunter pulled the match back to 3-2, before Sun Inn took control to take the points.

Another close match saw Throstle B away at Sun Inn B with the home side racing to a 3-1 lead, with wins from Ben Scott, Gary Miller and Dave Edwards.

The Throstle pulled it back to 4-4, before Greg Todd and Ian Frizzle won the last double to clinch the match for The Sun Inn 5-4 as they remain second in the league.

Another great match saw Letters A away at Wigton Park BC, and the home side looked to be on for an easy win, taking a 4-2 lead after the singles.

Letters won the first two doubles to pull it back to 4-4, before Messrs Barton and Thomson won the last frame form Wigton to seal the win.

Cumberland B had an agonising defeat away at Letters B, after leading by 4 frames to 2 from the singles.

They lost all three doubles to go down to another 5-4 defeat.

Liam Millican, with two great performances, won both his games for the Letters.

Wigton Rugby Club continue to climb the league after a good win over a strong Miners B team.

The match was all square at 3-3 after the singles, but the rugby club lads won the first two doubles to win the match, and it finished 5-4.

Ste Rumney and Mike Dodd won both frames to help Wigton to their victory.
