Cumbrian hotel undergoing multi-million-pound revamp

Owners of a West Cumbrian hotel have unveiled the first phase of the venue’s multi-million-pound revamp – and it’s a showstopper.

Osprey Management Group bought the Hunday Manor Hotel, near Workington, in 2023 and the firm said it has big plans for venue.

It undertook structural work immediately after it bought the hotel and in October this year, unveiled the Woodland Suites – a luxurious function space for weddings, corporate events and family occasions.

It is the centrepiece of the hotel – and a taste of things to come, according to Craig Lowery, the group’s managing director.

It has already hosted several events since it opened and said they wanted to create the premier destination venue in the county.

He said: “We’ve got a unique classical building, proper Cumbrian hospitality and a fresh modern interior.

“We’re really excited about the Hunday Manor and the feedback from the community so far has been brilliant. The reaction has been amazing.

“We’re thrilled with the Woodland Suites. We wanted to make this phase one of the renovation as the setting of the hotel, its gardens and its location make it ideal for events like weddings.”

Parts of Hunday Manor date back to 1760 and the venue is set in three acres of gardens, including woodland.

Craig said work was also ongoing to relandscape the grounds.

New decking, a new pond and much more is planned.

Work is also continuing on the building. Its 25 rooms are being completely overhauled, with the first suite due to be completed in the new year.

Craig added: “It’s a complete renovation. We are really excited for 2026 – next year will be a big year for the hotel.”

The Woodland Suites features the Woodlands Room, which seats up to 120 at table, approximately 150 for an evening event with dancing and around 200 in a conference layout, and the Willow Room, which overlooks the gardens and is ideal for smaller gatherings.

Experience Hunday Manor’s Woodlands Suites

People will have the opportunity to visit the Woodland Suites in the new year as the hotel holds two events.

On January 24 and January 25, people can visit Hunday Manor between noon and 5pm, have a look around the Woodland Suites and chat to the team.

Refreshments will be provided and entertainment is also planned.

A business and conference showcase will be held on Tuesday January 20 from 2pm for people to see how the Woodland Suites would provide the ideal location for their event.

The events are free but people are urged to book a ticket at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hunday-manor-events-open-weekend-tickets-1968557397167?aff=oddtdtcreator
