The Environment Agency is submitting a revised planning application for enhanced flood defences in part of Kendal.
Planning permission was granted for a section between Lakeland Distribution Centre and Dale Farm on the Westmorland Business Park in Kendal in 2019.
But the agency has resubmitted the proposal, using the latest data to improve the design of flood protection measures in that area in north Kendal.
It has lodged the revised plans with Westmorland and Furness Council.
The enhanced scheme includes a 210 metre reinforced flood wall at Lakeland Distribution Centre and a 370 metre flood embankment along Westmorland Business Park.
The improvements also feature better surface water drainage, an upgraded access track, and landscaping designed to minimise visual impact, it said.
Extensive modelling across the catchment shows the proposed work will not increase flood risk to nearby businesses or homes, the agency added.
Once submitted, the planning application will be subject to a 13-week statutory consultation period run by Westmorland and Furness Council.
During this time, residents and businesses can view the full application and submit comments directly to the council.
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “The Environment Agency is committed to continuous engagement and consultation from the initial design and development of the proposed flood embankment through to construction.
“Using new data, the Environment Agency has been able to improve the plans for the flood risk management for the south west Kendal area.
“Following our application for planning permission there will be a 13-week consultation period, providing residents with a further opportunity to view the plans and give their feedback.”
The agency said when completed, the Kendal and Upper Kent Catchment Flood Risk Management Scheme will better protect over 1,920 homes and 2,250 businesses from the impact of flooding.
