Bamber Bridge manager Jamie Milligan was delighted with a win against Prescot Cables last time out – their first after five straight defeats – but has told his side they need to replicate it against Workington this afternoon.
An Archie Lang goal in the second half was all that separated the Brig and Cables last weekend as Milligan’s men flew up the table after starting the day just outside the relegation zone.
Milligan, who played over 200 games for Fleetwood Town and had previously clocked up more than 70 for Blackpool, said after that win he thought his team had been excellent.
He said: “We defended a lot better when they created chances, but we had some good chances, too. It was good to get the win because the lads have been through a tough period lately, so I’m pleased for them.”
The win saw Bamber Bridge go four points clear of the drop zone, with that gap being closed to three following Morpeth Town’s midweek draw against Gainsborough Trinity.
Saturday’s trip to Borough Park presents a big opportunity for the Brig to win back-to-back games and put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone, and Milligan had challenged his players to do just that.
“It’s a tough place to go to and they’re a tough team to play against,” Milligan admitted. “But we need to start going on a run, and the lads know that.
“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, with the ability we have in that changing room, we shouldn’t be where we are.”
