Part of a West Cumbrian cliff face has collapsed in a landslide.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team was called out to St Bees yesterday morning, Tuesday December 16, after the collapse was reported to emergency services.
The team said the collapse took place in the vicinity of the old swimming pool.
It added that no one was in the area when the collapse happened and no one was unaccounted for.
The team added: “Areas of the public pathway have been reduced to a narrow width.

“Coastguard have placed temporary signage and tape, alongside the permanent warning signs in the area, and the local authorities have been informed.

“With the possibility of further collapse, we would urge the public to avoid the clifftop as well as the base of the cliffs for your own safety.”
People are advised to avoid the coastal path from Fleswick Bay to St Bees.
It is understood Cumberland Council has applied for a temporary closure order and it is likely it will become a permanent closure.
