A Cumbrian animal charity has issued a desperate plea for help to secure its future.
Eden Animal Rescue’s board of trustees said it was struggling financially and will continue to do so unless it receives a substantial injection of funds.
The charity, which rescues, cares for and rehomes dogs, cats, and other small domestic animals, is losing money every month.
The board said: “Without increasing its income, Eden Animal Rescue faces a difficult and uncertain future.
“To counter these losses we urgently need to raise substantial funds to ensure we can carry on its important work of protecting vulnerable animals.
The charity said over the last 12 months or so it had been hit particularly hard by severe cost pressures such as increased National Insurance costs, higher minimum wages, rising energy costs, increased cost of food and supplies and higher spending on vet fees.
It added there were significant cost overruns on its new kennels which were outside the charity’s control.
It added: “Sadly, despite lots of hard work by our staff, fundraisers and volunteers like the vast majority of small charities our income has not grown fast enough to offset these costs.
“The board of trustees has been looking at ways to save money and control costs.
“Whilst considerable progress has been made and efforts to further reduce costs are ongoing the charity is still operating at a month-on-month loss.”
Chris Cheetham, the chair of trustees, said: “We hope that both the general public and local businesses will come forward to offer their support.
“Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us to continue this work.
“With hope, determination, and the help of the community we will continue to do the very best for all the animals who need us”.
