Wheelie bins to replace bags in parts of Carlisle and north Cumbria

Thousands of households in Carlisle will soon have their waste collected using wheeled bins rather than seagull-proof sacks.

Although the majority of households in the Cumberland area already have waste bin collections, a small percentage have seagull-proof sack collections.

From March, households that can accommodate the bins will change to fortnightly collections, making them the same as other areas.

Letters have been sent to affected householders, Cumberland Council said.

Waste and recycling support and advice roadshows have also been organised by the authority.

Events will be held on:

  • Monday January 5 10.30am to 7.30pm: The Parlour, Wigton Road Methodist Church, Carlisle
  • Wednesday January 7 10.30am to 5pm: Brampton Community Centre, Union Lane, Brampton
  • Thursday January 8 8.30am to 1.30pm: Greystone Community Centre, Close Street, Carlisle
  • Monday January 12 9am to 3.30pm: Denton Holme Community Centre, 1 Morley Street, Carlisle
